Not Drawing

Hi Everybody,
I am new to this forum. I am, also, new to using Visual CAD/CAM. I have some experience working with CAD programs and have read through the Exercise Guide. I am having trouble in drawing simple forms. I chose 'Rectangle', find where I want to place the first corner- click there and proceed to pick the other corner. All I get is a 'straight line'. That is all I can draw on the screen. I try Circle , same thing. Just a straight line. What is wrong? Another question- how do I delete a line that I do not want? There are some thing that are not mentioned in the guide.
