CRadMill toolpath incorrect in 2-1/2 Axis?

Post by erokc »

I noticed in the simulation that the cut was out past the region in 2-1/2 Axis Facing, Profiling, and Advanced Pocketing. I changed the corner radius of the tool and the path changed.

The tool path is exactly the tool radius minus the corner radius from the region curve for the finish cut.

This can't be correct, can it?

CRadMill toolpath incorrect in 2-1/2 Axis?

Dave,

VisualMill honors the height of the region. This means if the Z level is at the same height of the region then the toolpath will be offset only by the flat radius of the tool. At a Z depth a distance of more than corner radius then the offset will be the full radius of the tool. At any depth between these two Z depths the actual offset value will be between the flat radius and the full radius of the tool. The actual value is computed so that the corner radius portion of the tool is touching the region.

Z level at the same level as region
-----------------------------------
oooooooooo
oooooooooo
\ooooooooo/
\_______/______________________________

Z level at the distance > corner radius below region
-----------------------------------
|oooooooooo|____________________________
oooooooooo
\ooooooooo/
\_______/

Z level at the distance < corner and > 0 radius below region
-----------------------------------
oooooooooo
oooooooooo
\ooooooooo/_____________________________
\_______/

Hope this helps.

CRadMill toolpath incorrect in 2-1/2 Axis?

Yes this helps. My regions are at Z=0 and just above.

Can I select and move the region to another Z level? If so how?

Thanks, Dave

Select the regions and use the Menu -> Edit -> Move commands from the menu bar. If you are new to VisualMill, I would suggest using the dialog version of the move command. To do this Menu -> Preferences -> Command Preferences -> Select "Dialog Version" for Transform commands.
