Issues with flat area selection

Post by Bryce »

I'm having an unusual problem with Visual Mill on a project I'm working with. When I select a flat area for a pocketing operation, only a few parts of it get machined. When I create a set of curves, it will machine the whole thing.

This is what flat area selection does:

This is how curves as selection looks.

While I know I can use sketches for the boundary geometry, I rather like the arc output I get from selecting the flat area features. The code it spits out is a much smaller file and our machine runs it so much better (and faster).

Additionally, I'm having issues with profiling operations on this geometry as well. "Determine using 3D Model" and "Inside" both put the toolpath on the outside of the lines. Using "Left" is the only way to get the desired result, which I have never experienced.

Any thoughts on why Visual Mill is not handling these files as it normally does?
