Welcome to the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about VisualMILL.
General:
| Why is VisualMILL so inexpensive? |
|
VisualMILL is inexpensive compared to other
products in the market with comparable features
because we are a technology driven company.
We spend most of our revenue in developing the
product rather than in sales and marketing.
Our goal is to create the best product for the
money and let our users be our evangelists.
We use state of the art development techniques
such as object oriented programming and
component software technologies to make the
product development process quicker, easier and
more cost effective.
|
| How accurate is VisualMILL? |
|
VisualMILL's accuracy is only limited by
hardware resources. Users can control the
accuracy almost indefinitely of the machining
process with parameter settings. This
makes VisualMILL as accurate as high end CAM
systems.
|
Installation:
| What are the minimum hardware requirements for VisualMILL? |
VisualMILL runs on ordinary Windows desktop and laptop computers.
With:
. Pentium class processor including AMD
. Windows 7/Vista/XP/2000 for Intel and AMD
. 80 MB disk space.
. 64 MB RAM. More is recommended.
. Parallel or USB port for hardware key.
|
| Does VisualMILL work on Windows Vista? |
|
Yes, VisualMILL runs on Windows Vista without any problems.
|
| Does VisualMILL require a hardware key to run? |
|
Yes, all commercial versions of VisualMILL require a hardware key to
run. Users have a choice of a parallel port key or a USB port key when placing
the order. The evaluation or demo version of VisualMILL does not require a hardware key.
|
Post Processor:
| What post-processors does VisualMILL support? |
|
VisualMILL has built in support for over 100 post processors. Additionally VisualMILL comes with a post processor generator which can be used to create
additional post processors. So if your controller reads in M & G codes, we will be able
to supply you with a post for it.
|
| Can VisualMILL output APT format files? |
|
Yes. VisualMILL has the capability to output APT format files. You can then take these APT
files and use an APT post-processor if you have one available.
|
| How can I send output to a Roland machine? |
VisualMILL can output toolpaths directly to a Roland machine.
To do this follow these steps:
1. From the Menu, select the Post Process->Set Post Options.
2. In the "Program to display output file" selection, click Browse and select
RolandPrint.exe present in the VisualMILL installation folder ( by default this folder is
C:/ProgramFiles/MecSoft Corporation/VisualMILL 6.0)
3. When Posting the toolpath, select the ROLAND CAMMGL (second one in the list)
|
Machine Tool Interface:
| Why is the machining time estimate not always exact?
|
|
Machining times are calculated in VisualMILL using the user
specified feed rates only. However on the
actual machine tool the acceleration and the
deceleration of the tool come into play and this
will invariably be different than the ones
calculated by VisualMILL. Use the
machining time calculated by VisualMILL as a
ball park estimate.
|
| Does VisualMILL support automatic tool changers?
|
|
Yes. VisualMILL supports automatic tool changers
effortlessly by archiving all created operations
in an operation list and outputting them all at
once to the controller if the user so desires.
|
| Does VisualMILL
have a native program that communicates the
codes produced in post processing to the
machine? |
|
VisualMILL 6.0 comes bundled with a single port DNC program.
Additional ports can be purchased and added to
the existing setup. In addition to this VisualMILL offers a
separate communication program that will communicate
with Roland machines.
